This Sunday we will be starting a new teaching series: “Embracing Justice”. This week, we’ll explore the message on the first page of the Bible, that every human is made in the image of God, gifting equality, honour and unity. We will also look again at Adam & Eve’s choice that has been repeated countless times across the globe, a choice to define good and evil for themselves rather than trust God’s definition of good and evil. How did it all go so wrong?

Free weekly small group resources are available from Home Groups, with each session including a 20 min video conversation, Biblical passages to explore and discussion questions around the theme of the week.

The Big Church Read are also offering weekly discussion starters, each introduced by a short video’s from the author.

Live Lent have produced a series of daily Bible readings and weekly challenges, available as a free app for Apple and Android devices, free daily email reflections, as audio on a smart speaker, or as a printed booklet available for purchase.

Questions for Reflection

How do/could you consciously honour the image of God in the people you
meet? In the people whose stories you see on the news? Are there people you
struggle to see the “image of God in? What might help?
What parts of your life are obviously interdependent with the wider creation?
How might you become more conscious of your impact on nature, and its
impact on you?
Try and think of a situation where doing what is right or just is not obvious.
What resources do you use to make a decision? Who defines what is just?
Watch the news or read the papers for today. How are different people groups
represented? Can you see evidence of an economy of scarcity? How might
different groups tell their own story?
Can you take a product you have recently bought, and trace its journey? How
many hands have made it, distributed it, shaped it? How were they each treated
When was the last time you thought, ‘That’s not fair!’ Exactly what was unfair?
How could it be put right? What might another person involved say?
What is your ‘comfort zone’ when it comes to ‘doing justice? What feels
challenging or too big? Is there anything you would rather ignore?
What do your use of money and buying choices say about your priorities when
it comes to justice?
